      燠熱的8月，使得人心也浮動了起來&，真想找個地方讓自己清涼一下; 但我們的教學熱忱可不能冷卻了; 最近利用時間參加了幾場的研習師訓，思考反芻後，將其理論應用到課堂活動中，學生們的學習意願頓時提高了不少!!

利用簡單易懂的繪本進行教學：

Picky Nicky是一本初階的英語繪本，對於已接觸了英語半年至一年的學生來說，是帶領他們進入迷人又多采多姿的英語繪本世界的好書。透過這本書，認識各種和食物飲食相關的概念、phonics、songs and chants、sight words、vocabulary、sentence patterns, 還可培養不挑食的好習慣。書中主角Nicky是個挑嘴的小女孩，不吃peas、carrots、grapes and pears, 寧可吃bees、parrots、apes and bears!且看Nicky如何運用她聰明的小腦袋，把這些她討厭的食物吃下肚!?
先給孩子做個warm up --- 利用學過的食物單字做引導，而引出peas這個字；問孩子：What do you like to eat for supper？Are there some foods that you dont like？Do you know that？Picky Nicky hates to eat some foods. Lets take a look what they are. 之後順勢將故事帶出。

讓孩子坐成圓弧形，使每人都能看到書本；較長的生字、句子我唸，他們只須唸圖的部分(這是我喜歡這本書的原因)，並以戲劇性的口吻來說故事；等故事進行到3/2時，出現了Nicky要如何吃掉她討厭的食物的情節--- 這時我會把繪本合起來，反問他們：What would you do if you were Nicky？Eat up the food pinching the nose？Throw them under the desk stealthily？Or eat the food bravely? 藉以發揮孩子的想像力和創造力，孩子們給你的答案通常是我意想不到的!
以下是我進行繪本教學的過程，將它簡略撰寫於下：

請孩子把剛才出現過的食物單字一一列舉出來peas、carrots、grapes and pears, 其他押韻字bees、parrots、apes and bears, 也請孩子說出來。
(1) 開頭發音相同的字( peas / pears / parrots, bees / bears )
(2)字尾押韻的字( peas / bees, carrots / parrots, grapes / apes, pears / bears )
(3)同種類的字( spaghetti, peas, carrots, grapes&., parrots, bears, bees &.)
第二階段 ─ Letter-chunks
在紙上寫下 -ees, -arrots, -apes, -ears, -eas, 請孩子說出任何是押此種韻的單字，可復習短母音、長母音，及其他的長母音；可摸、可說、可寫、也可畫。

第三階段 ─ Songs and Chants
歌曲和韻文是最能引起孩子的興趣了，由apes 和bears 引申出 Three Little Monkeys. 除教歌詞外，加入動作可加深孩子的印象。
第四階段 ─ short-story reading
自行撰寫一篇短文，請孩子找出短母音、長母音和押韻字。短文如下：
Picky Nicky likes to eat spaghett.
But Mom says：We are having peas and carrots.
And Dad says：We are having grapes and pears, too.
Oh, NO!
Picky Nicky thinks：I would rather eat bees, parrots, apes and bears, than peas, carrots, grapes and pears. What will she do?

(1) 隨機點選常見的sight words, (like, to, but, and, than, think,no, 等等)讓孩子快速地讀出。

(2)請孩子找出短母音發音的單字。

(3)超過3個字以上的長母音單字，則用自然發音規則幫助孩子讀出。

(4) 不符合自然發音規則的字或非單音節的字，當作新單字來教。

(5)再問孩子和短文相關的問題：What does Nicky like to eat？Does she like to eat peas？Is she happy？Is she a smart girl？&.等，以瞭解孩子是否能在閱讀之餘同時瞭解文章內容。

第五階段 ─ short-story writing

熟知繪本內容後，以上面的短文為範本，讓孩子進行分組練習討論，請孩子也寫一篇短文。可給孩子一星期的時間，和組員研究，再拿給老師校正，讓孩子熟讀他們自行寫的短文後，再在課堂上發表；因拼圖活動(jigsaw)、同儕輔導(peer tutoring)、合作計劃(cooperative project) 此三種教學法，可降低孩子的學習焦慮，並增強課堂參與的動力。
希望以上的小小經驗分享，能對各位老師在做英語繪本教學上有所幫助。
當我們發現孩子開始喜歡英文閱讀，而培養出閱讀的興趣和習慣時，這一切的努力都是值得的，孩子們英語能力的提升也將指日可待。
Guide children as they grow, show them in every way possible that they are cared for, and make special moments for them that will add magic to their lives, motivate them to make a difference in the lives of others, and, most important, teach them to love life.
