Different ways to adapt the poker game
In the first game
we use color to score.
In the second one
we put two jokers into the set of cards. Whoever draws the joker can either double his point.( or exchange points with the other team.)
The third way ,
uses numbers to score. It is a combination of number 1 and 2.
In number four,
we have to determine whether even or odd numbers score, such as double your points, make minus points or keep the same score.
In the fifth game,
multiples of a certain number can be used to gain points. For example multiples of three are six, nine, twelve. They can win points for the team.
In number six,
the four symbols are used to score. Eg, Clubs scores 1 and Diamonds scores 2...........
In the seventh way,
if a team reaches a certain number they can either swap points with the opposide team or shift their negative points to positive points.
In number nine ,
we focus on phonics. The same rules as in eight apply. But here we can also use short unknown words. The students only have some vowel cards. Another way to play this game is to concentrate on syllables. The students only have the cards which have one to five.
The last way
to apply card games in a lesson is to use a different kind of cards eg. category cards use games one to ten and adapt the rules to these cards.
Make sure to tell your students that whether they lose or win is not proof
of their ability of English. Games can only be played if the students
understand that they are not the all-important thing. Winning often
depends just on luck. No matter what games we play in class remember
to focus on language learning and fun.
